Your GCE exam-day checklist

You've done the work. Exam day is about letting that work show. A calm, prepared candidate always outperforms a panicked one of equal ability.

The night before

Pack your bag: admission slip, ID, pens, pencils, ruler, calculator (with fresh batteries), and a clear water bottle. Lay out your clothes. Set two alarms. Then stop studying — late cramming raises anxiety and lowers recall. Sleep is revision.

The morning of

Eat a real breakfast — your brain runs on glucose. Arrive early so travel stress is behind you. Skim a summary sheet, not new material. Breathe slowly; nerves are normal and even helpful in small doses.

In the hall

Read the whole paper first. Budget your time by the marks — never spend ten minutes chasing a two-mark question. Start with a question you can answer well to build confidence. Show your working: method marks add up.

When you're stuck

Move on and come back. Your subconscious keeps working while you answer other questions. Leave time at the end to check units, signs and that you've answered every part.
